If your Eurail Pass is valid in Italy, you can get free and discounted ferry crossings, as well as other great offers.

To take advantage of these offers just show your Eurail Pass or directly contact the company that offers the benefit. Free travel offers are only valid during travel days, whereas other benefits apply during the entire validity of your Pass.

Travel between Italy and Greece with Superfast Ferries International

Eurail Pass holders with a pass valid in Italy and Greece can freely travel on these routes:
  • 1st class: Free airline-type seats or dormitory*.
  • 2nd class: Free deck passage
Eurail Pass holders with a Pass valid in Italy or Greece get a 30% discount on these routes.

*Dormitories are not available on ferries that operate on the routes:Please note that Pass holders (except those with a Greek Islands Pass)  do have to pay seasonal surcharges, port taxes and fuel surcharges.

NB:  Bari is a 4 hour train ride from Rome. From Bari’s train station, take bus 20 to the ports. Ancona is a 3 hour train ride from Rome. From Ancona's train station, take bus 1 or 4 to get to the ferry terminal.
 


Free and Discounted Ferry Travel on International Routes with Minoan Lines

With a Eurail pass valid in Greece and Italy, you can travel for free on the routes:
  • 2nd class pass holders travel for free on the deck and 1st class pass holders get free airline-type seats between Italy and Greece.
  • Eurail pass holders with a pass that is valid in either Greece or Italy receive a 30% discount on this route.
  • Please note that pass holders have to pay seasonal surcharges, port taxes and fuel surcharges.

Venice's passenger terminal is located near the city center. There’s a shuttle bus service that can take you from Piazzale Roma to the terminal.

Set Sail for Greece, Spain, Sardinia or Sicily with Grimaldi Lines

Eurail Italy passholders receive a 20% discount on full or special fares and 10% on accommodation supplements for Pullman seats, berth, or cabins on Grimaldi Lines taking you between Italy, Sardinia, Spain, or Greece. Discounts apply to the routes listed below.Please note that on most routes the ferries do not sail daily. Check the Grimaldi Lines website for detailed information about departures.

  • Civitavecchia’s port can be reached by train from Rome in about 1 hour.
  • Grimaldi Lines operates a shuttle bus service from Napels to Civitavecchia.
  • Purchase a ticket on board of your ferry or the bus (€24).
  • Livorno can be reached by train from Rome in about 2.5 hours.
  • From Livorno's main train station, take bus 1 to Piazza Grande, where you can find the passenger terminals.
  • Porto Torres can be reached by train from Calgliari (south of Sardinia) in about 4 hours.
  • Shuttle buses will take you to the commercial port.
  • From Palermo’s central station, take bus 139 to Via Francesco Crispi.

  • From there it’s a short walk to the passenger terminal. Salerno is a 2 to 3 hour train ride from Rome.
  • From Salerno’s main train station, you can take a bus to the docks.

Scenic Routes with Express Buses

Eurail pass holders only pay a reservation fee on ÖBB intercity buses that operate on the following route:For this route passes must be valid in Italy and Austria.

Reservations for the route Klagenfurt – Venice can be made on www.fsitaliane.it or through the ÖBB call center (phone number: +43 5 1717 (open 24/7) ).

Please keep in mind that you'll have to pick up your reservations made on the fsitaliane website at an Italian train station or have them shipped to an Italian address.

Sleep your way from France to Italy with Thello
 
Looking for a comfortable way to travel between France and Italy? The Thello night train connects Paris to many Italian cities, such as Milan, Verona and Venice. On this train, Eurail pass holders get a 25% discount!
  • Reservations are mandatory.
  • We recommend you make your reservation well in advance.
  • Visit the Thello website for more information.
  • Bookings can be made via Thello and Trenitalia.
  • Alternatively bookings can be made at the Thello self-service ticket machines and boutiques at Paris Gare de Lyon and Nice Ville.
  • In Italy bookings can be made at Trenitalia ticket windows and self-service ticket machines. 
 


Travel directly from Milan to Munich

Travel by bus between Italy and Germany on the following route:
  • Pass holders with a Global Pass need a reservation only (regular reservation fee).
  • Pass holders with a pass which is not valid in all countries through which the bus passes need a reservation and a ticket for the section not covered by the pass.

Tickets and reservations are available at railway ticket windows in Germany or by calling the DB.
 


Travel by Ferry to the Italian Islands and Croatia

With your Eurail pass, get a 20% discount on SNAV ferries traveling to Italian islands and from Ancona (Italy) to Split (Croatia). The discount applies to all types of accommodation on the following routes:
