Guide to Innsbruck, Austria

The first impression you get when you arrive in Innsbruck, capital of the Austrian province of Tyrol is amazement.

Tour of Innsbruck city

Taking a tour around the city will be on the main street, the Maria-Theresia-Strasse, you can admire the ‘Arc de Triomphe, erected to celebrate the wedding of the future Emperor Leopold II, and Annesaule, Column of St. Anne, built in 1704 to celebrate the city’s liberation by Bavarian troops. Finally arrive at the Market Hall, open daily, offering a wide range of local products.

Continuing along the center will cross the Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse, the street and very special feature is completely paved with cobblestones.

In the old town are the oldest monuments, such as the Altes Rathaus, the old town hall dominated by the Civic Tower in 1442, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city, the palace where Mozart lived (1769), the Neuer Hof, residence of the Dukes Frederick IV and Sigismund of Tyrol, the facade of which we find the famous Golden Roof (Golden Roof).

This consists of a balcony decorated with coats of arms and scenes of dancing and the protruding portion is covered by a 2657 fire-gilded copper sheets.

Other interesting places to Innsbruck Hofburg, the imperial palace used primarily by the Empress Elizabeth, surrounded by the magnificent imperial garden, the Hofkirche, the church court, and finally the court theater, conference center today.


Innsbruck Museums

Concerning the Museums, submit the Ferdinandeum, rich with prehistoric collections and the largest Austrian Gothic collection, the Museum of the Alpine Club, which presents the art of alpine last two centuries, the Castle Weiherburg (1480), a venue for exhibitions and contemporary Museum of Swarovski crystals.

It’s also a dutiful visit to the oldest inn of Austria (1390), the Golden Eagle Inn (Gasthof Goldener Adler): the entrance you can read the names of all the famous people who stopped there.
